Salt Cod for Silver: Yankees, Basques, and the North Shore's Forgotten Trade

"Salt Cod for Silver: Yankees, Basques, and the North Shore's Forgotten Trade" is a mini-symposium presented in partnership with Historic Beverly, Marblehead Museum, and Salem State University Department of History.

This free public event will be held at the Salem Visitor Center at 2 New Liberty Street in Salem, Mass. Seating is limited to the first 200 attendees on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The program will explore the fascinating history of the nearly two-hundred-year-long trading relationship between the New England ports of Salem, Marblehead, and Beverly and the Spanish Basque port of Bilbao.

Participating in the symposium will be Xabier Lamikiz, University of the Basque Country; David Hancock, University of Michigan-Ann Arbor; and Karen Alexander, University of New Hampshire Gulf of Maine Cod Project. Independent scholar Donald C. Carleton, Jr., will moderate the panel.
